Piezoelectric Ceramic Fiber
ACI’s piezoelectric fibers are a unique form of ceramics that bend. Ceramics that are flexible and light weight eliminate the two major drawbacks of conventional bulk piezoelectric ceramics; weight and brittleness. This also allows any user defined shape to be built, and with such close coupling capabilities, in some cases, transducer efficiency reaches 70%.
Available in a range of fiber chemistries from Navy specified materials, plus relaxor ferroelectrics to advanced state of the art chemistries in a multitude of shapes. Diameters range from 13 microns to 250 microns. Materials can be delivered in green, sintered, and composite form with electrodes and pre-polled. Piezoelectric fibers are ideal for ultrasound, acoustic reproduction, underwater acoustics, smart sporting goods, energy harvesting, self-powered condition monitoring, ultrasonic bone and wound healing and many more applications. When composited, piezoelectric fibers are very durable (fatigue life > 200 million cycles with no degradation in properties).
- 13-250 micron diameters
- Assorted fiber shapes; variable diameter, crimp, kidney, tubes, solid core, etc.
