Piezoelectric Ceramic Fibers

ACI’s line of piezoelectric fibers and composite materials enable actively controlled structures, embedded power sources, and sensors with unparalleled granularity. This fiber technology has been incorporated in the latest active smart sporting goods and is now being designed into next generation aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, wireless sensors, acoustical equipment, sports gear, industrial equipment, infrastructure, apparel and the list keeps growing!

Energy Harvesting

ACI's composite materials generate ten times the amount of power from waste mechanical energy as other flexible forms of piezo materials. This functional amount of power can be used for self powering electronic loads, damping vibrations or morphing structures. Harvested mechanical energy (vibration, compression or flexure) can all be tapped to deliver extreme life span power in places previously impossible.

Example Application

Head Sport introduced Intellifiber and Intellichip (www.head.com) active fiber composite tennis rackets and skis with energy harvesting actuators made from ACI's patented PZT fiber. These self-powered "Smart" products actively dampen vibrations and deliver torsional stability created during a ball strike or edge chatter from a ski turn by using the energy created to control the shape of the ski or racket. This active structural control adds up to 15% more power to a ball hit and about 6” more functional edge on a ski. The results were "Tennis Racket of the Year", and several gold medals at this year’s Olympics for Head Sport and its customers.

Other Fiber Chemistries

ACI can spin almost any ceramic chemistry.  Better medical, high temperature, filtering, and structural products are the result.
